Frequently Asked Questions

Prices & Shipment

What does an average system cost?

Solar PV system cost depends on various factors, with price ranging from 13,500 CAD to 17,500 CAD for 6 kW capacity.

How long will it take you to send me the panels after I pay for them? How fast do they usually arrive?

Normally it takes us 48 hrs to prepare your order for shipping. Depending on the delivery address, it takes 2-7 business days to deliver it.

Can the panel be returned after the payment has been processed?

Yes, you can return the panel. For more information, please, see our return policy. Note that shipping charges are non-refundable.

Solar system installation

Can I install solar panels on the ground/roof/RV/boat?

All panels are essentially the same with some variations in power output. The dimensions of the panel normally correlate with the power output of the panel. The right questions would be how much power is required and if there is enough room to mount it. The only panel that is designed specifically for rooftops is Solaria AC module, as it will only work in a grid tight system.

How much roof space do I need for solar panels?

It depends on how much energy you are planning to generate. As a rule of thumb, every square foot of roof space can potentially generate about 15 watts of solar energy. So, you’ll need at least 100 ft² for a smaller system and more than 1,000 ft² for a larger one.

What direction to choose for solar panels?

To get the most out of your solar panels, make your solar panels face true south if you live in the northern hemisphere, and true north if you live in the southern. This will ensure your solar panels receive direct light throughout the day.

Do I need constant sunshine for my solar panels to work?

No, though the output will reduce accordingly. Solar panels do work in the shade, on cloudy days or when there isn’t direct sunlight – just at less capacity.

What is the panel efficiency on a cloudy day?

Panel power production depends on how much sun it’s getting. Yes, it will produce power on a cloudy day. But its amount depends on how much sun is getting through the clouds.

Does it make sense to order and install solar panels in Canada even though it can get really cold here?

Yes, solar panels perform very well in cold climates.

Do I need to worry about solar panels in the snow?

No, most of them are designed to withstand heavy snow loads.

My house is near a high forest, does it make sense to order and install solar panels?

You will need to check if you have areas with direct sunlight and if it is possible to install panels in those areas. With the help of microinverters and power optimizers, a solar system can still be very efficient under such shading conditions.

How long will a solar installation take?

For professional installers, it normally takes from one to three days to install a rooftop residential solar PV system.

How many panels do I need?

On average, you’ll need 28-34 solar panels to cover 100% of your energy needs. To get a more precise number, use our Solar System Calculator.

How to choose an inverter?

Normally solar panels produce power for over 25 years, so it would be logical to invest in a good inverter with quality warranty. We recommend Solaredge, SMA, Fronus, Outback, Enphase and Schneider brands inverters.

How much power will I be able to produce with a solar panel system?

The sky's the limit. To calculate precise power output, you’ll need the following equation: panel wattage x number of sunlight hours x number of panels. For example, a 5kW system in Alberta would generate about 17.4 kW a day.

Does the efficiency of a solar panel decrease over time?

Yes, it does. Generally, panel power production degrades about 1% per year.

Is going solar worth it?

How long will my solar panels last?

The average life expectancy of solar panels is 25-30 years. However, this doesn't mean they won’t produce electricity after that. They will, but at slightly reduced output.

How fast can I reach a break-even point with solar panels?

At current prices, any solar power system usually pays off within 5-6 years.

Will the solar system pay for itself?

The answer is definitely ‘Yes’. A typical solar panel payback period is estimated to be 5-6 years, but it can vary depending on which province you're in.

What warranty applies to this solar panel?

Warranty information can be found here: https://a1solarstore.com/warra...

What guarantees will my solar panels come with?

Typically, solar panels go with two warranties: a performance and product guarantee (25 and 10 years respectively). However, some manufacturers may provide extended warranties as well.

Can a solar array increase the value of my home?

Yes, installing solar panels in a home can potentially increase its value by up to 4.1%.
